DeepSeek Pushes For Nex-Gen Smart Car AI Tech

Nex-Gen Smart Car
After they dethroned OpenAI's ChatGPT as the most downloaded free app on the Apple App Store, China's DeepSeek is rapidly making its presence felt across key sectors in the country. The artificial intelligence company has partnered with Hangzhou-headquartered automaker Geely to integrate its R1 LLM model with the next generation of smart cars.

The Chinese EV maker will now conduct distillation training on its Xingrui car control FunctionCall AI model using DeepSeekR1, a process where outputs from a larger, more advanced AI model are used to improve a smaller model’s performance.

On 11 January, Geely unveiled its Xingrui AI model as "the world’s first full-stack self-developed full-scenario AI big model in the automotive industry." Xingrui consists of three core models: language, multimodal, and digital twin.

The use of cloud computing and AI to boost the competitiveness of new energy vehicles (NEVs)—improving performance and offering more personalized driving experiences—has become a key trend in the Chinese automotive industry.

Geely has announced its 'Smart Geely 2025' strategy to accelerate the adoption of advanced AI technologies, including end-to-end voice interaction models, AI digital chassis, and intelligent driving systems.

At the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, Pan Jian, co-chairman of CATL, stated that China’s electric vehicle industry is evolving from 'EV' (electric vehicle) to 'IEV' (intelligent electric vehicle). He explained that the rapid growth of China’s EV market is driven by the seamless integration of "electric" and "intelligence," where electricity enables advanced features that gasoline-powered vehicles cannot offer.

Geely is not the only one making advancements in the AI-powered EV market, as Chinese carmaker Dongfeng also announced that it would integrate DeepSeek’s AI offering into their Zeekr and Voyah electric vehicle models.

Dongfeng-owned Voyah announced that owners of its latest Zhiyin electric crossovers will receive over-the-air updates starting February 14, giving them access to a continuously growing AI database and making it the first production model to support the latest version from the home-grown AI startup.

Recent reports show that Chinese companies are quickly integrating DeepSeek R1 AI into various industries, including PCs, robotics, and electric vehicles. This push comes as a response to increasing US sanctions, with both countries vying for dominance in the field of AI.
