Project Cloud Games and publisher Perp Games have dropped new details about "The Relic: First Guardian," revealing it as a dark fantasy action RPG with soulslike trappings. Set to launch in early 2026 on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series, the game leans into an apocalyptic world inspired by Asian folklore and designed around intense combat.
Gamers will play as the Last Guardian in Arsiltus, a land consumed by a void born from the destruction of the Great Relic. The mission is to collect relic fragments, seal the void, and restore balance. Unlike conventional RPGs, characters don’t level up—instead, progression is handled via runes, crafting, and gear to shape builds.
Combat is designed to feel fluid and aggressive. The game boasts over 70 bosses, called "Brutals," each with tragic backstories. Defeating them lets you inherit their stories, gain upgrades, and shape your path forward.
The developers emphasize that there is no stamina bar, making offense more feasible, but with parry, dodge, and defensive options still in place for those who favor a cautious approach. A recent gameplay reveal showed combo-based melee, varying weapons (from dual blades to heavier arms), and a boss fight in a burning village with shifting environments.
While "The Relic: First Guardian" wears its inspirations on its sleeve, it also signals ambition: richly told lore, high stakes, and a systems-driven approach to building power. If it delivers on its promises, it could become a standout in the next wave of high-difficulty fantasy action games.
