The 2024 VS Fashion Show Failed Miserably

2024 VS Fashion Show
The Victoria's Secret Fashion Show was once considered as the sexiest and most daring night in fashion. It looks like the 2024 version has gone off-road after a six-year hiatus when it featured overweight, has-beens, transgenders and wannabee models.

In years past, the glamorous show drew together lingerie-clad models, musical performers and a dazzling celebrity guest list before things came to a crashing halt.

In contrast, the show last 15 October in New York featured a Brazilian model Valentina Sampaio, who in 2019 became the first transgender model to represent the brand. It also has transgender model Alex Consani, as the lingerie brand continued its push for greater inclusivity.

Some felt the event was a far cry from its glory days when extravagant walks and outfits dominated the fashion world for weeks after airing, before the company faced scandals related to allegations of a "toxic" workplace culture.

Victoria's Secret has also experienced declining sales, with critics attributing this to its recent shift towards inclusivity, including the use of plus-sized models, which they say has not resonated with consumers.

The 2024 show featured an all-woman musical lineup for the first time ever, headlined by Cher, along with Blackpink alum Lisa and rising star Tyla.

However, backlash emerged on X (formerly Twitter), with viewers criticizing the toned-down production and "woke" approach.

The brand was once renowned for its sultry catwalks featuring supermodels like Cara Delevingne and Miranda Kerr, known as "Angels."

In the past, models would strut down the runway in 10-foot white feathered wings, thongs, and basques, but the new version left many fans disappointed.

"Victoria’s Secret came back with the most boring show ever," said one commenter, while another remarked, "The Victoria’s Secret show looks so modern and boring now, I’m disappointed."

So there you have it, in a bra cup: The 2024 Victoria’s Secret runway show was also a parade of really old models like Kate Moss, Tyra Banks, Carla Bruni, skinny models, not-quite-as-skinny models, and a bunch of people you thought were really retired. The runway looked like it was in an abandoned retirement home for aging World War II planes or maybe a really big high school gym. Despite the towering wings (there were still wings), the models seemed dwarfed. It's really uncomfortable.

By the end of the show, when Cher came on, everyone can't help by asking if this is just an AI projection? Or how this woman is the same age as everyone's sagging Grandma? Or what an incredible film Moonstruck was?
