Even former NASCAR driver Danica Patrick can't help but chimed in on the debate regarding American Eagle's new ad with Sydney Sweeney.
Last week, American Eagle launched its new campaign with the tagline "Sydney Sweeney Has Great Jeans." There's a commercial of her wearing an all-denim outfit while talking about her genes.
"Genes are passed down from parents to offspring, often determining traits like hair color, personality and even eye color," Sweeney says in the American Eagle commercial. "My jeans are blue."
Shortly after this ad was released, countless social media users accused Sweeney and American Eagle of promoting "white supremacy" and "Nazi propaganda."Earlier this week, ESPN contributor David Dennis Jr. said he was "mortified" by the messaging in this campaign involving the "Euphoria" actress.
"I didn't think anything of the Sydney Sweeney ads," Dennis wrote on Bluesky. "But then ACTUAL SCHOLARS ON MESSAGING, EUGENICS AND FASCISM explained what was going on then yes I understood and became pretty mortified because hey sometimes IT'S GOOD TO LISTEN TO EXPERTS."
Aside from conservative politicians, Sweeney received some support from the only woman to win an IndyCar race.
Danica Patrick shared a video of someone mocking the outrage over American Eagle commercials along with this message: "Hilarious. Can anyone tell me what's wrong with the new AE ads?! Very confused."
Patrick has never been afraid to voice her opinion on social media, that's for sure. Leading up to the 2024 presidential debate, she made it clear that she wanted Donald Trump to win.
"The work is not done until we can wear or fly an American flag, say we want to make America great again, and say I LOVE THIS COUNTRY….. and have that make us American, not Republican," Patrick said after Trump won the election.
