"Diversity" has been the key word that 'political correct' crowd are trying to push for quite some time now and they even imposed that agenda in comics.
They are trying to make everyone believe that the marketplace has been shifting from "white males" to "everybody" over the last twenty years and, unsurprisingly, audiences have been demanding characters and concepts that look more like 21st century America and less like a Norman Rockwell painting.
This has been a loud outcry, and they got their wish the mantle of the Asgardian Thunder God, Thor, transferred to the cancer-stricken Jane Foster. Except. For. One. Thing.
It’s the sales. Having a woman Thunder God in the "Mighty Thor" comic series means nothing if they’re plummeting towards cancellation, and numbers showed that it is headed in that direction. The Mighty Thor's sales did plummet after a few issues. In fact, it was the highest drop in readership in the history of the title. Controversy sells but, like every gimmick, it doesn't last long.
