A video that has been extensively circulating online featured two Filipino divers currently competing in the Southeast Asian Games in Singapore. It was not about how the two performed superbly, but how the two receive similar points: a big zero.
John David Pahoyo and John Elmerson Fabriga failed to get a score from all of the judges after they flanked badly at Aquatics Diving 3-metre Finals (Men’s) after they both landed awkwardly on their backs.
The mishap relegated the Pinoy divers to rank 7th and 8th. Malaysia won the gold medal, Indonesia placed second, Singapore in third.
On social media, the poor performance drew laughs among netizens saying, "friends do not let friends do silly things alone ... in this case getting zero points.” Other advised the divers to practice more and criticized the sports committee for sending two unskilled athletes.
However, some were more sympathetic and wished the Philippine diving team more luck and practice in the future.
One netizens said that he "respect their efforts to compete outside. Although Im sure they also made a good laugh of themselves after that “splash”, mockery is not necessary for the world to move on."
