Message of Peace from India

Message of Peace
The daughter of an Indian soldier has sent out an important message about overcoming hatred and asking for peace. In a powerful video, Gurmehar Kaur asks for an end to war, state-sponsored terrorism and spying.

Using a series of placards, Kaur recalls losing her father in the 1999 Kargil War between India and Pakistan, when she was just two. She also describes about the pain of losing a loved one to war, and transforming hatred to the realisation that it was important not to blame a community or a country for her loss.

Since being posted last week, the video has received nearly 25,000 shares on Facebook. It was made as part of Ram Subramaniam’s #ProfileForPeace Facebook campaign, which encourages people to post profile pictures with messages of peace between India and Pakistan.

“If France and Germany can become friends after two world wars, if Japan and USA can put their past behind and work towards progress, why can’t we?” Kaur asks in the video. She ends with an important message. “I wish to live in a world where there are no Gurmehar Kaurs who miss their dad. I am not alone there are many like me.”
