Wanda and Pietro Are Not Mutants

Wanda and Pietro
Last year, every comic fan was shocked to learn that Marvel altered the history of two of its characters. In the mini-series "Avengers & X-Men: AXIS", Marvel revealed that that Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch aren't the children of Magneto.

Recently, writer Rick Remender is now shedding more light on the real origins of these two characters. As featured in "Uncanny Avengers #2,", it turns out the two heroes are not mutants and were actually created by the Marvel villain known as the High Evolutionary.

That wasn't the only twist in this comic. It turns out that Wanda and Pietro have a sister named "Luminous," one whom the High Evolutionary has tasked with killing them.

As to why their origins are being altered at all, the prevailing theory is that Marvel wants to make the comics more like the movies, and because Fox owns the film rights to the X-Men franchise, Marvel isn't able to depict Wanda and Pietro as mutants or children of Magneto in their movies. Now that both the comic book and movie versions of the characters are no longer mutants, it would seem that's no longer a problem for them.
